Conquer Your Closet

Do you constantly walk into your closet and know that you have to get rid of some things but either A. you are too tired to do so. B. Overwhelmed with the amount of work it will take. C. You have no idea where to start.

How many times have you been late because you couldn’t find something to wear? This shirt is too tight, that skirt is too short, and those dresses have stains. We’ve all been there, and then we hang those clothes right back up where we found them, only to repeat the same process next week and every week after that.

It’s time to end those cycles and tackle the closet once and for all…well for a little while, until we go shopping again.

If it’s a no, then throw…

Take a hint from all those days being late and toss or donate those clothes that we are constantly saying no to. Not only will it save time but it will also create space in your closet for things that do fit.

Do you really love it?

How many pieces of clothing do you see in your closet and think eh I might wear it one day? Before you know it, it has been three years and you haven’t worn it once.

The “to mend” pile

Have one of these piles? How long has it been growing? I got rid of a pile of clothes just because I didn’t have the time or the desire to allocate an afternoon to mending clothing.

Age appropriate…

I can’t tell you the number of closets I have gone through and have found clothing that should belong to a 20yr old, not a 45yr old. Save yourself the embarrassment of walking in a mall and seeing a teenager wearing the same outfit.

Sentimental items…

We all have that sweater from college that we don’t want to give up, or maybe it’s your first date outfit, or an anniversary dress. If these items are torn, worn, stained or don’t fit; it might be time to let them go. They have served their purpose well, but it’s time to say good-bye. If you are worried you will forget the item, take a picture.

Outdated clothing…

Look familiar? Have the same or similar outfit in your closet? Go to Google, type in 1980s fashion and if any of your clothes bare a resemblance, it’s time to say goodbye. Take some goofy pictures and let them go.

Closets can be tricky and overwhelming, but start slow. Tackle one section at a time, lay everything out on the floor and see what you have, try it on, take some pictures, create a runway, get your daughters involved, have some fun with it. Once the closet is finished, it’s one less thing to check off your list!

And if you really can’t bare to tackle it, give me a call!
